Training classes recommence in February

After a break over the hotter weeks of Christmas and January we restart our training classes as usual on the first Sunday in February, this year on the 2nd. Our December/January break gives our hard-working trainers and committee a time to relax and not worry about being up and alert early every Sunday morning, and also to enjoy time with their own dogs over the holidays.

We trust our members have had a wonderful Christmas and have enjoyed the holiday season with their dogs. And that our doggy members coped with the fireworks on New Years Eve, something that can be less than enjoyable for many dogs.

A reminder to members to keep up your daily training sessions with your dogs, just 5 minutes a few times a day will ensure that your dogs remember and understand what you are asking of them. Remember to be patient and positive, we want our dogs to enjoy and look forward to the time they spend with us.

Keep your dogs cool! It is much better to take them out for a walk in the early morning or in the evening when it is cooler. In the heat of the day the pavement and road can be really hot and can burn even the tough skin on a dog's paws. If a dog is overheated, cool water on their tummies or getting them into a drop or down position a shallow pool can be really helpful. Take extra care with breeds with flatter faces like Pugs or Boston Terriers as it can be very difficult for these dogs to keep themselves cool. Definitely do not walk them or allow them to exercise on warm or hot days.

Membership registrations have been open over December and we have already filled our February intake of new members and their dogs. We are now taking registrations for March.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in February, refreshed and full of energy for a new training year.
